In its annual award ceremony, TIC has singled out the Casa Ronald McDonald NGO and Cristóbal Peñarroya
On its seventeenth anniversary, the TIC Marbella Business Awards have singled out the pioneering natures of two men and one NGO. The Tourism Initiatives Centre yesterday revealed the names of those selected as entrepreneur and institution of the year; these distinctions were awarded respectively to Cristóbal Peñarroya, builder and businessman who develops estates and hotels, and Málaga’s Casa Ronald McDonald, which for four years has been providing free accommodation for families with sick children who have to travel to the region’s capital city to receive medical treatment. In turn, the Special Luis Cierco Award for Tourism Promotion in Marbella has gone to Manolo Santana, one of the best known sport personalities from the 1960s in Spain. None of those receiving the awards are lacking credentials.
From among employers in Marbella, emphasis was placed on work done by Peñarroya, who founded the group of the same name 50 years ago. He discovered his vocation as an entrepreneur when he was very young, when he set up a company dedicated to construction. He built his first building in Los Boliches, Fuengirola, in 1964, and founded the company as it is today in 1966. These projects were followed by the Faro de Calaburra estate in Mijas Costa and numerous buildings in Málaga. Throughout his career, the businessman, who pioneered the concept of “all inclusive” hotels on the Costa del Sol, set his sights on other business activities by founding travel agencies and purchasing the “Málaga Costa del Sol” newspaper in 1992.
Throughout these 50 years of business activities, Peñarroya has completed 30 real estate developments and estates with over 4500 homes. His Holiday World hotel project in Benalmádena represented a milestone in his career, thanks to the addition of 3500 hotel beds and the creation of 700 direct jobs over the course of only twelve years of his life. As well as the resort, another highlight of his career is the Reserva de Marbella development.
“The Peñarroya Group has come a long way by diversifying its activity and continuously innovating to develop high quality tourism throughout the province of Málaga”, stated TIC.
